The Perfect Dinner Suit

Dinner Suits – also known as tuxedos – are a timeless, sophisticated alternative to the standard suit. They most often feature satin overlays, which is noticeable especially on the lapel, the buttons, and the side of the trousers. This style of suit is worn exclusively to formal, black tie events.

Our Opinion

Despite the formal nature of a tuxedo, don’t be afraid to experiment with colors and fabrics. We’ve seen men sport grey or purple worsted wools, or velvet tuxedos in deep red. But the real appeal of this cosmopolitan garment is in the details, so make sure you choose the proper neckwear, the right shirt, and equally dashing cufflinks.

The benefit of a Tailor-Made Dinner Suit

While there are almost limitless options when it comes to accessorizing, there’s also quite a bit you can do to customise the jacket, shirt, and trousers themselves.
For example, you can line the jacket with a striking color or choose between a single-breasted or double-breasted front. Also, depending on your preferred style, you can either opt for a peaked lapel or a shawl collar. Another great way to add specialised details is to carefully choose your shirt buttons. Some men prefer a streamlined, minimalist shirt without visible buttons, while others choose to wear their shirt with studs. These studs could be anything from simple black and silver to extravagant and multi-colored.

Bespoke vs. Off-the-Rack

While fit is always important, amongst so many other well-dressed people at a black tie event, a good fit is the true sign of elegance.
A tuxedo is an investment. Just as you wouldn’t buy a luxury car straight off the lot without customising it, you don’t buy a tuxedo off the rack. Instead, a tuxedo should be made specifically for your physique and height. Small details such as the hem, shoulder size, and arm length can make all the difference between looking utterly sharp or a total flop. At Edit Suits Co., we know how a suit should fit. By taking accurate measurements and giving your personal build and posture full consideration, we can help to create the perfect tuxedo for your next important event.

I bought my first made to measure suit at the Liverpool Street showroom in August this year, and it did not disappoint. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and most importantly, patient. The range of fabrics colours and options for the suit were vast, and you can really make it your own - down to your initials sewn onto the inside of the jacket at no extra cost! The suit took around 3 weeks to be made, and when then a further week to adjust - not a lot needed doing. Now the suit fits perfect, and looks very special, not bad for £467. I'll be buying another when the time comes.
