The Perfect Tweed Jacket

Tweed is a rugged, water-resistant fabric, made from wool, and originating in Scotland, England, and Ireland. It’s a cloth that is worn casually, most often outdoors, and is most notably associated with country homes and game shooting.

While tweed retains the essence of the English gentleman today, it has evolved considerably and is no longer just a fuzzy material made for hunters. Instead, tweed jackets are being paired with jeans and chinos for more casual-smart looks and have proven to be an autumn and winter fashion staple.

With a large selection of fabrics and countless customisation options available, we can create a tweed jacket for you that is uniquely yours!

Tweed in and of itself is unique. There are dozens of patterns associated with the fabric, and here at Edit Suits Co. we’re eager to help you pick just the right one for your next jacket. Those that follow are merely a few of the options open to you.

Plain Twill
On the simpler side of weaves, this style is woven diagonally and doesn’t appear to have a pattern but can be very textured if more than one color is used.

Plain Herringbone
Intricately woven with four threads, this patterns appears v-shaped.

Overcheck Twill
What most people think of when they imagine tweed, a large checked-design is stitched on top of traditional twill in a contrasting colour.
In each case, earthy tones reminiscent of the countryside are customary, but more and more we’re seeing punches of bright colors that help to breathe fresh air into this classic fabric.

How to Wear Your Tweed Jacket
Which other items and accessories you pair your tweed jacket with will largely depend on its colour and material. A light colored blazer (grey or tan) can create a subtle, casual look, while a more traditional brown or green textured tweed jacket can add warmth and class to a standard pair of jeans. In any case, tweed is extremely versatile. Tweed jackets can be worn atop tailored shirts, t-shirts and sweaters, meaning neckwear isn’t always required. Dark or light chinos will turn even the most conservative tweed jacket into something appropriate for a weekend stroll and black trousers can dress up an otherwise casual tweed jacket for an evening out.

What Our Customers Say
Jamie Gallagher
Smooth process, knowledgeable staff and excellent suit at the end of the process! Will continue to use!
James Pratt
I bought my first made to measure suit at the Liverpool Street showroom in August this year, and it did not disappoint. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and most importantly, patient. The range of fabrics colours and options for the suit were vast, and you can really make it your own - down to your initials sewn onto the inside of the jacket at no extra cost! The suit took around 3 weeks to be made, and when then a further week to adjust - not a lot needed doing. Now the suit fits perfect, and looks very special, not bad for £467. I'll be buying another when the time comes.
